Mackay obtiene 1er lugar en General Knowledge Event 2012

› EL GK SE HA IMPUESTO EN LA SEMANA DEL COLEGIO COMO UNA TRADICIÓN DESPUÉS DE NUMEROSAS VERSIONES

          Como ya es costumbre hace algunos años, el General Knowledge organizado por el Departamento de Inglés, se llevó a cabo durante la semana de aniversario de nuestro colegio. Al igual que su versión anterior, el evento fue adaptado en base al programa norteamericano Jeopardy. Durante la sexta y séptima hora del día lunes 8 de octubre, tanto profesores como alumnos se reunieron en el gimnasio para alentar a sus respectivas casas.

         Al igual que el año anterior, los alumnos participaron en las categorías 5° y 6° básico, 7° y 8° básico, II° medio, y III° y IV° medio. Cada categoría contó con dos representantes por casa. Nuevamente, los alumnos de I° medio no pudieron participar, ya que habían iniciado en la mañana su travesía por el norte de nuestro país.

          Desde el pasado jueves 5 al sábado 7 de julio, se realizó el Tercer Interescolar de Ingeniería en Estructuras de la Universidad Andrés Bello, en el que nuestro colegio tuvo una destacada participación, el equipo integrado por seis alumnos del Área Senior, fueron acompañados por Miss Alejandra Jorquera, del Departamento de Artes de nuestro colegio.

          El pasado 26 y 27 de abril, se desarrolló el encuentro anual de ensayo de la ABSCH, organizado en esta oportunidad por el colegio Wessex de Concepción. José Ignacio Leiva, de IV° Medio, obtuvo el primer lugar en este torneo tras una ardua jornada de trabajo, a la cual asistió en compañía de Miss Jimena Jara, del Departamento de Lenguaje de nuestro Colegio. Este año el tema del ensayo correspondía al rol de los medios de comunicación en la reconstrucción física y moral, de las localidades afectadas por el 27-F. The Student’s Weekly conversó con José Ignacio respecto a sus impresiones respecto a este encuentro, con el fin de indagar como este influyó en su percepción respecto a la temática implicada.

› LOS ALUMNOS DE BACHILLERATO INTERNACIONAL REALIZARON UNA INFORMATIVA PRESENTACIÓN SOBRE LA CELEBRACIÓN DE ESTE DÍA

          El pasado jueves 3 de mayo, los alumnos de tercero medio de Biología, Química y Sistemas Ambientales y Sociedades, del Bachillerato Internacional, realizaron la primera charla referida al Día de la Tierra, el que es celebrado internacionalmente el 22 de Abril. Durante la primera hora de la jornada, la primera audiencia, los alumnos de 5º y 6º básico junto a sus respectivos profesores jefes, se dirigieron al Auditórium para presenciar esta actividad.

          Los primeros en presentar fueron los alumnos Felipe Besoain, Javier Hasbún, José Manuel Zulueta y Lucas Molinet, de Química y Biología, quienes trataron temáticas relacionadas con la historia del Día de la Tierra, el principio de sustentabilidad y la clasificación de los recursos naturales.

The Mackay School Participates on the 8th National Public Speaking Competition

› THE EVENT WAS HELD AT UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDES, SANTIAGO

          On April the 23rd, it was held the eighth version of the National Public Speaking Competition at Universidad de los Andes, by the English Speaking Union. This year students Vicente Gándara and Kazu Sone participated accompanied by Miss Lydia Droegemueller, presenting their speeches about theme: “The Head or the Heart?” There were 56 speakers competing this year, divided into four heats. Kazu and Vicente, as belonging to the same school, were assigned to the same heat. Though they presented their speeches skilfully, were not selected among the eight semi-finalists, who had to present a three-minute impromptu speech about one of the topics proposed.

St. Paul’s obtiene el 1er lugar en el Writing Event 2012

› EL EVENTO SE DESARROLLÓ EL PASADO VIERNES CON EL COLEGIO VENCEDOR COMO ANFITRIÓN

          El pasado viernes 20 de abril, se llevó a cabo el “Writing Event”, de la Asociación de Colegios Británicos, con el colegio St. Paul’s como anfitrión. El alumno Vicente Gándara representó este año al colegio acompañado por Miss Carla Chávez, jefa del Departamento de Inglés. La jornada comenzó a las 9:00, cuando los colegios participantes arribaron al Estadio Español de Viña del Mar, donde se desarrolló la competencia. Luego de esta recepción, la contienda fue oficialmente inaugurada por el colegio anfitrión, tras lo que los alumnos fueron llevados a una sala acondicionada en la que comenzaron a escribir sus ensayos.

› SEVERAL ACTIVITIES ARE BEING PREPARED FOR THIS 60^TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER ACCESSION TO THE THRONE

          During this year 2012 it is celebrated the 60th anniversary of the accession to Queen Elizabeth to the throne, which took place on February the 6th, 1952, when her father, King George VI, died. The queen was at that time in Kenya, on an official visit after which her life would completely change. However, the queen was just 25 years old so that she inherited a great responsibility, comparable only with which was obtained by Queen Victoria, who assumed at 18 years old. This is why their reigns are the longest throughout England’s vast history, and, besides, the most popular.

          On February the 6th, the celebrations of the Queen’s anniversary started with her visit to Norfolk which was one of the first places she attended as she accessed to the throne. › LOS ALUMNOS DE MIDDLE Y SENIOR DEMOSTRARON SUS APTITUDES COMO ORTÓGRAFOS PARA OTORGARLE LA MEJOR POSICIÓN A SU CASA EN ESTA DIFÍCIL CONTIENDA

          El pasado jueves 3 de noviembre, durante la primera hora de la jornada, se desarrolló el Intercasa de Ortografía bajo la organización del Departamento de Lengua Castellana y Comunicación, en la que participaron alumnos de 5° Básico a IV° Medio.

          Este año, la modalidad en que el evento fue realizado, fue diferente a otros, ya que los alumnos se reunieron en dos grupos: de 5° a 8° Básico, y de I° a IV° Medio.           El sábado 22 de octubre se llevó a cabo la gran Kermesse de nuestro colegio siguiendo una nueva línea temática: “Mackayland”. Este evento, ya tradicional en el colegio, sirve para unir a todos sus miembros, desde profesores hasta los apoderados, en un día recreativo, útil para divertirse en familia y amigos. También personas de otros colegios e instituciones asisten a este evento, lo que lo hace aún más diverso y entretenido para todos sus participantes.
