› THE EVENT WAS HELD AT UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDES, SANTIAGO
On April the 23rd, it was held the eighth version of the National Public Speaking Competition at Universidad de los Andes, by the English Speaking Union. This year students Vicente Gándara and Kazu Sone participated accompanied by Miss Lydia Droegemueller, presenting their speeches about theme: “The Head or the Heart?” There were 56 speakers competing this year, divided into four heats. Kazu and Vicente, as belonging to the same school, were assigned to the same heat. Though they presented their speeches skilfully, were not selected among the eight semi-finalists, who had to present a three-minute impromptu speech about one of the topics proposed. Once this stage of the competition ended, four semi-finalists presented their original speeches to the audience. Alexa Epstein, from Lincoln International Academy, won the final and she will represent Chile in the international version of this contest, in London.
During the British Week, the English Department will host the second version of the internal Public Speaking Competition. This year’s theme will be “The End Justifies the Means”, so interested students must deliver a five-minute speech on the subject. The interpretation of the theme is free but should not be used as title for their speeches. Those who want to participate must leave a comment on Mackayzine.
See you on stage!
